Capital Automotive REIT. The Group's principal activity is to own and lease real estate properties. It also owns and leases franchised automobile dealerships, motor vehicle service, repair and related businesses. As of 31-Dec-2002, the Group had invested more than $1.6 billion in 292 properties located in 28 states comprising approximately 2,076 acres of land and containing approximately 11.9 million square feet of buildings and improvements. The Group has been approved as a Real Estate Investment Trust under sections 856 through 860 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.
