Albemarle Corporation. The Group's principal activities are to produce polymer and fine chemicals that are additives or intermediates for plastics, polymers and agricultural compounds and pharmaceuticals. The worldwide chemicals operations are carried on under two segments: Polymer Chemicals and Fine Chemicals. The Polymer chemicals segment is comprised of flame retardant, catalysts, polymer additives and intermediates. The Fine chemicals segment is comprised of pharmachemicals, agrichemical intermediates and performance chemicals. The products are sold directly to manufacturers of the aforesaid products, including chemical and polymer companies, pharmaceutical companies, paper and photographic companies, drilling companies and water treatment companies. The majority of the products are manufactured in the United States, but there are production facilities in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Polymer chemicals accounted for 54% of 2002 revenues and Fine chemicals, 46%.
